The Schöckl is the local mountain of Graz. Although he does not count his 1442 meters above sea level to the highest mountains, it rises majestically from the still Graz Basin. A broad, flat plateau gives it its distinctive appearance. As Grazer mountain he has always stimulated the imagination of the people. Many myths and legends have grown up around him. The main reason is, in addition to his imposing appearance, the geology of the mountain with numerous mysterious gorges, ravines and caves. Water, wind and weather have left their mark on the mountain. The Schoeckl is next to the Schlossberg and the Dachstein another cultural and historical landmark of Styria.
