What cures us
Documentary

“Life is not what one lived, but what one remembers and how one remembers it in order to recount it.”
This documentary is a deeply personal project by Emmy Award–winning director Juliana Schatz, exploring memory, identity, and loss through an intimate human lens.
Deep in a lush valley of the Colombian Andes—where the region continues to grapple with its collective history of violence—thousands of people face a gradual erasure of memory. In Medellín, home to the world’s largest family affected by genetic early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, a Colombian family with a fifty-fifty chance of inheriting the condition confronts an uncertain future.
As their memories fade, researchers race against time to unlock answers within their genetic legacy. Between science and fate, the film follows a fragile struggle to preserve identity itself—before it disappears.
